Am Institut für Astronomie und Astrophysik, Abteilung Hochenergieastrophysik, der Universität Tübingen ist zum 30. Juni 2012 die Stelle eines/einer

Akademischen Rats/Rätin auf Zeit (Bes. Gr. A 13)

für 3 Jahre mit möglicher Verlängerung um weitere 3 Jahre zu besetzen. Zu den Dienstaufgaben des Stelleninhabers/der Stelleninhaberin gehören sowohl Mitarbeit in der Forschung der Abteilung Hochenergieastrophysik des Instituts sowie in der Lehre des Instituts.

Einstellungsvoraussetzung sind umfangreiche Kenntnisse in der Astrophysik der Röntgen- und TeV- Quellen. Im Rahmen der Forschung wird aktive verantwortliche Mitarbeit an den verschiedenen Projekten der Abteilung (eRosita, LOFT, H.E.S.S. II, CTA) erwartet. Erfahrungen mit der Datenauswertung von Röntgen- und  Gammaquellen, sind wünschenswert.

Bewerber sollten über eine abgeschlossene Promotion (oder äquivalente Qualifikation) in der Physik/Astrophysik mit Schwerpunkt Hochenergieastrophysik verfügen.

The High-Energy Astrophysics group of the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics Tübingen (IAAT) at the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen has openings for research projects on the following topics:

1) Digital electronics developments for space-based instrumentation (Postdoc). Background studies of X-ray instrumentation (PhD).
2) Investigations of high-energy particle acceleration in galactic supernova remnants using TeV γ-ray observations (PhD).
3) Study of the X-ray source population (mainly X-ray binaries) in nearby galaxies based on XMM-Newton and Chandra data. Comparative studies also include archival data of other space telescopes like the HST, GALEX, and Spitzer (PhD).

The positions are available starting October 1, 2011. A later starting date is possible. The appointments will be for an initial period of two years with a possible extension to three years. Salaries and benefits are granted according to the E13/2 (PhD) and E13 (Postdoc) level of the German public salary scale.

We seek highly motivated candidates for PhD studies with a Diploma/Master or an equivalent degree in physics or astronomy. Applicants expecting to finish their degree in late 2011 are encouraged to apply.

Qualified scientists with a doctoral degree in physics, engineering, or astronomy and with experience in development of digital electronics are very welcome to apply for the Postdoc position(s). Candidates (engineers or physicists) with a Diploma or a Master degree and with a long experience in the field of
digital electronics will be considered, too.
